Artists and Internet
In this day and age, Internet has wide applications in all aspects of our lives. People rely on the Internet to find information, store files. And many artists and designers use the Internet to create and design their works. There is not doubt that Internet has became an important part of our life, people can not live and work without Internet, especially for the people who want to create something which is artists. Internet provides a wealth of resources and ideas, and designing or creating with Internet are also the trend of the times and it could be a way of life, at the same time, with the functional improvement of Internet, plagiarism and rely on Internet too much have been brought to our attention.
Nowadays is the Internet era, people can do majority of things via the Internet. Creating and designing new items and works is one of them. First of all, people can search resources on the Internet. There is no doubt that Internet provides a series of creative resources and inspiration. Some creators borrow ideas from others and built upon them to create something which is newer and better. In our textbook, Lessing called this kind of borrowing is "Disney Creativity". From my perspective, borrowing ideas from others to create something newer is a good way to improve both of them. For example, McDonald’s, a big American global carting company, is also popular in my home country. People like to go to McDonald’s to enjoy fast food in China. Therefore McDonald is very successful in Chinese market. Meanwhile there is another kind of fast food restaurant called Dicos. By referring to the business concepts of McDonald’s, Dicos concentrates their major markets on relatively smaller cities and creates some new and different things in their menu. Therefore, we can say that Dicos gets their business ideas from McDonald and operates their own special fast food, it is helpful for Dicos to survive in the market. On the other hand, McDonald’s have one more competitor, it could be a kind of pressure to prompt McDonald’s to create more delicious food that fits in local markets. Competition in business is similar as competition in arts field. In general, artists and designers borrow ideas correctly will make their works more competitive and bring lots of benefits to both sides.
Second, the Internet is an important tool to deal with artists and designers’ works. When the artists or designers have ideas, they build frame first, then they seek accurate data through the Internet to support their draft. Finally, a combination of all resources will make the results and visual effects more perfect, such as Deviant Art. It is an online community showcasing various forms of user-made artworks.[1] Deviant Art aims to provide a platform for any artists and designers to exhibit and discuss works. Creators can get a lot of inspiration from there, and usually artists and designers want to go place such as Deviant Art to get the newest information about art and design. Another example is Pento, another online ideas box. Pento always shares some useful information for creators so that they can keep up with the major trend of the times. Therefore, the resources from Internet really can help artists to get useful elements and ideas. Artists should reasonably use this resources and often visit the artworks website to improve themselves.
However, all things have good and bad aspects. The disadvantages of Internet are also obvious. With the development of network information, some artists and designers copied the ideas from the Internet. They search the Internet to find the works they want, then they use the materials directly without any permission. By using this way, they save lots of time and money to obtain more personal interest. This behavior is absolutely wrong. It is unfair and immoral to the original authors, and it can be regarded as “rob the author of the profit.” It is an appropriate option that creator to get the inspiration from the original author and his content, then they can make themselves’ originality and combine them together in order to generate personal ideas and results. There is no doubt that all things have a starting point, and many final excellent ideas and works stem from this point in terms of our cultural background and feeling of art. That’s the reason why we should do a great number of practice and research during our study time. Using the information and ideas from the internet reasonably and accurately will bring lots of help and benefits to their creation programs. So artists and designers must distinguish the difference between plagiarism and citation in order to create new ideas and good composition. On the other hand, some creators rely on Internet too much so that the ability of innovation is abate. As Dutch artist Rafael Rozendaal saying that “The websites should not try to be paintings.” Anyway Internet just a kind of machine to help human how to work efficiently but it can not instead of human brain.
In sum, Internet is gradually becoming a necessary part in our life, people can’t not live and work better without the access of Internet. In particular, artists and designers rely on the resources from the internet to expand their visionary. The famous Dutch artist Rafael Rozendaal said “The website can exist anywhere you want, anyway you want.”  Internet is a good platform for creators to get newest ideas and it is also a good proscenium and backstage tool for creator, but every coin has two sides, plagiarize and copies from internet also exist and affect the development of innovation. How can creators to make the best use of resources legally and how can they do not rely on Internet too much is becoming more seriously. After all, our life need more real creators rather than copycats.

  1. Peer Suggestion Sheet
    Essay #: __1__
    Reader’s Name: ____Adnan Mohammad________________________
    Writer’s Name: __Jiatong Han___________________________
    1. Is there a clear thesis in the essay? If so, locate the thesis and underline it. If there is not a clear thesis, what do you think that the thesis statement seems to be? What do you think about the writer’s thesis? How can it be made more clear/effective?

There is no clear thesis in her essay, so the thesis should have a counter argument like, “although thesis statement”, and she should include because and give the reasons since we are working in argumentative essay.

2.What are the reasons that the writer gives to support his/her thesis? Are these effective? Why or why not?
To support her claims and has an evidence of what she is talking about, yes it is effective because she will have some evidence and support to what is she writing about.

    2. Where would you like to see more development, specifics, or details? In other words, where do you want to know more?

I want to know what is she arguing about and what is the body paragraphs is about, and some grammar mistakes.

    3. Is there a counterargument? How does the writer deal with it? If there is not a counterargument mentioned, what do you think would a reader of this essay object to?

There is no counter that mentions in her Intro, however, I assume that she wrote a counter argument I the paragraphs that says, “However, all things have good and bad aspects. The disadvantages of Internet are also obvious. With the development of network information, some artists and designers copied the ideas from the Internet.”

    4. How well could you follow the general flow or arrangement of the essay? Were there places that confused you? If so, point them out in the essay and explain why they were confusing.

The paragraph that confused me is the Intro paragraph since there no clear thesis statements, and if there is no clear thesis statements the reader would have difficulties of reading the essay since he/she wont know what the body paragraphs about. So, thesis statements is an integral part of the essay, if it is missing or not clear then the whole essay wont be clear to read and understand in particular.

    5. Are the transitions between sentences and paragraphs easy to follow? Point to places where the transitions are unclear.
Yes it is kind of easy because she is saying, “ First of all, in my perspective { “in my perspective” should not even appear in argumentative essay because she has to have sources from other, evidence, and support. }”.

    Overall:
    1. Is the writer using relevant sources? If not, can you suggest the kinds of sources that might be helpful for the writer?
I think she has a relevant sources
    2. Is there a Works Cited page in MLA format?
No there is no works cited page
